Buckley welcomes flood relief commitments for East Cork

19 October, 2017 - by Pat Buckley TD

Sinn Féin TD for Cork East Pat Buckley has welcomed news that the Defence Forces will be available to assist in flood relief measures following Hurricane Ophelia. Deputy Buckley today confirmed this with Minister for Defence Paul Kehoe.

Deputy Buckley said:

“Cork East has had serious flooding issues in the last few years which have caused major long term disruptions to residents and local businesses.

“Ophelia was felt most heavily in Cork and needs immediate attention. While my hope is that Storm Brian will not result in much more damage it is good news that flood relief from the Defence Forces will be in place.

“I had a brief but very constructive conversation with the Minister today who assured me of this provision.

“Areas affected at present are parts of the N25 Cork to Youghal, the road to Cobh, Ladysbridge to Garryvoe, the Dongourney road, and Main Street, Carrigtohill, as well as the Whitegate road.”
