Sinn Féin urge compassion in school dispute

27 October, 2017 - by Karen Mullan

Sinn Féin has called for immediate action to resolve a dispute which has prevented a child with special educational needs from starting school.

The party’s Education Spokesperson, Karen Mullan MLA also urged the Education Authority to show compassion in the case of four year old Farrah Morton from Dundonald who should have started school in September.

She commented: “It is important that parents feel listened to and respected regarding educational options and choices.  This is even more crucial in the case of children with special educational needs.

“The EA must demonstrate compassion and resolve to address issues of this kind.

“I’m particularly concerned about the emotional and developmental impacts of incidents of this kind on children and the stress experienced by parents.”
