West Belfast Community Drugs Panel Launch

27 October, 2017 - by Alex Maskey

The West Belfast Community Drugs Panel will be unveiled, today at St Mary's University College at 12 noon.

The seven-member panel will include senior representatives from the local community sector and statutory bodies.

Alex Maskey MLA said:

“The panel will examine all aspects of drugs misuse in West Belfast, which has led to the tragic deaths of too many members of our local community.

“We have established this enquiry as a direct result of the heartfelt pleas from families bereaved as a result of lethal misuse of drugs, both prescription and illegal/opioids etc.

"We owe it to our community to do all in our power to tackle the misuse of drugs, prevent access to such drugs, provide the necessary medical/health support to those challenged with drug addiction.

"We need to make our community aware of the dangers associated with drug abuse and most importantly take the necessary steps to help save the lives of those falling prey to drugs misuse."
