Maskey slams arson attack on Milltown War memorial

6 November, 2017 - by Paul Maskey

Sinn Féin MP for West Belfast Paul Maskey has slammed those behind an arson attack on the memorial to the British Legion in Milltown Cemetery.

Damage was caused to the memorial when material was pushed against it and set alight.

Speaking today Mr Maskey said:

“The attack on the war memorial in Milltown Cemetery must be condemned in the strongest terms.

“Milltown Cemetery is a place where people go to pay their respects those who have passed in quite reflection. 1000’s of families have a connection with the cemetery.

“Unfortunately there is a small group who persist in causing damage, destruction and upset in the cemetery. Such arson attacks, as we have seen in the past number of weeks are disgraceful, and need to stop.

“I have spoken to the cemetery management and the PSNI on site today.

“The damage caused to the memorial was in quite an open space. I would urge anyone who saw anything suspicious to contact the PSNI.”
