Mullan seeks assurances over exam exclusions
Sinn Féin Education spokesperson Karen Mullan has called upon schools, the Department of Education, the ETI and the Education Authority to work together to ensure that local students do not face exclusion from exams.
The Foyle MLA was speaking after it was reported that some schools were preventing pupils from sitting exams in order to maintain higher positions on school league tables.
“Reports that young people may have been excluded in order to protect league table results are extremely worrying," she commented.
“No child’s education should ever be put at risk in order in order to protect a league table position.
“I will be seeking assurance from the EA, the ETI and sectoral bodies that measures are put in place to protect pupils against exam exclusions in these circumstances.”
