Imelda Munster TD welcomes unions scheduled appearance at Labour Court tomorrow
Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Transport Imelda Munster TD has today welcomed news that Trade Unions have accepted an offer to attend the Labour Court tomorrow morning. The news comes after the second of five planned one-day strikes by Iarnród Éireann workers.
Deputy Munster said:
“Everyone wants to see a resolution to this dispute. I am hopeful that both sides can work towards a resolution in the coming days.
“The wider issue of under-investment in rail infrastructure still needs to be addressed, and only the government can do that.
"To date all we have heard from them on this issue is unhelpful comments from the Taoiseach suggesting that when CIÉ workers have a dispute “it is always necessary to have a strike” and junket travel plan to North Korea from Minister Ross.
“We need Minister Ross to step up to the mark in his brief and to pay attention to the crisis in Irish Rail. He has been aware of the financial situation at Iarnród Éireann for over a year now, yet he has failed to do anything about it.
"He promised to convene a stakeholders forum after the Bus Éireann strike back in April, and he has yet to do so.
"We need less diversion and rubbish from Minister Ross. He has to stand up to his responsibilities and take action.”
