McElduff - A5 vital to development of north west of Ireland
West Tyrone MP Barry McElduff welcomed today’s announcement by the Department of Infrastructure that construction on the A5 scheme is to go ahead early in the new year.
“Last week when I was attending the meeting of the Good Friday Agreement Committee in the Dáil I stressed the importance of the A5 scheme to my constituents with Minister Simon Coveney.
“Under the Fresh Start Agreement, the Dublin government committed to €75m for the A5 scheme. Last week I raised the need for the Dublin government to fully honour its financial commitment to the A5 scheme to ensure its completion.
“The completion of the A5 scheme is vital in aiding economic development in the North West. The improved infrastructure network will help bring jobs to the people of Tyrone, Derry and Donegal as well as connecting the region with Dublin and Belfast.
“The improved road network in the region will also help with road safety.”
