Designated Special Status important for local economy - Maskey

1 December, 2017 - by Paul Maskey

Sinn Féin MP Paul Maskey has said the creation of a £29 million BT Innovation Centre in Belfast is an important project in the midst of economic uncertainty caused by Brexit. The West Belfast MP said
"This is an important investment into Belfast which will bring with it crucial employment opportunities."As it's delivered alongside University of Ulster, this project will also mean a boost to local graduate opportunities."This is a positive story for Belfast, but much more action must be taken to redress longstanding regional disparities in investment and job creation. Too often isolated rural areas are losing out."Projects of this sort which are jointly-funded by the EU also point to the important economic opportunities which are under threat due to Brexit."Designated Special Status for the north within the EU is the only means by which we can secure investment opportunities such as these."
