Government Must Allow Banded hours Bill to Proceed - David Cullinane TD
Sinn Féin spokesperson for workers' rights David Cullinane TD has said today that the government's feet-dragging on decent work procedures is inexcusable and that banded hours legislation needs to be brought to committee as quickly as possible.
Deputy Cullinane said:
"The report launched by ICTU today shows that precarious work is a significant and growing issue for employees.
"Sinn Féin have a Bill that would address these issues.
"It was subjected to intense pre-legislative scrutiny at committee and is ready for amendments but is being held up by a request for a money message from the Taoiseach's office.
"Instead of respecting the work of the jobs committee the government is instead planning to bring forward its own Bill that will do little, if anything, to address the core problem of precarious work.
"I call on the Taoiseach and the Minister for social Protection to respect the work of the Jobs Committee and allow Sinn Féin's banded hours bill to proceed to committee for amendments.
"Workers cannot wait while the government drags its feet on this issue."
