McVeigh – City Deal is an important opportunity for Belfast

7 December, 2017 - by Jim McVeigh

Sinn Féin’s Cllr Jim McVeigh has said a City Deal for Belfast is a crucial opportunity to improve infrastructure and create economic growth in some of Belfast’s most deprived areas.

Speaking following a visit to Belfast City Council by British Secretary for Communities and Local Government, Sajid Javid, Cllr McVeigh said:

“A City Deal has definite potential to create real economic opportunities in some of the most deprived areas in Belfast.

“A 10-year City Deal should focus on driving economic development in areas that have suffered under the weight of relentless Tory cuts, and are yet to share in the benefits of economic growth visible in other areas of Belfast.

“Sinn Féin welcomes this potential major investment program, and urges that it prioritises inequalities and deprivation in Belfast to give meaningful economic opportunities to everyone in our City.”
