‘Deep concern at new mesh revelations’ – Flynn

12 December, 2017 - by Órlaithí Flynn

Fresh revelations that known risks of controversial vaginal mesh implants were not passed onto doctors and patients is further evidence that their use should be halted, Sinn Féin MLA Órlaithí Flynn has said.

The West Belfast MLA was speaking as a BBC Panaorama investigation uncovered documents showing that one of the world's biggest medical companies failed to tell doctors and patients of the full extent of some of the risks posed by the implants.

“These latest revelations are deeply concerning, particularly for the many women across the north suffering serious side effects from vaginal mesh implants,” she commented.

“The physical and emotional pain they have had to endure is terrible and if it proves to be the case that some of the risks were known and not passed on, that is scandalous.

“It is also further evidence that the use of this treatment should be halted immediately.”
