More public information needed on broadband coverage - Ennis

12 December, 2017 - by Sinéad Ennis

Sinn Féin’s Sinead Ennis MLA has said more support and information is needed for those dealing with lack of broadband coverage and connectivity issues.

The South Down MLA was speaking after Sinn Féin was contacted with hundreds of constituents’ queries regarding inadequate broadband coverage.

Sinead Ennis MLA said:

“In advance of a recent meeting with BT to raise concerns about insufficient broadband coverage in South Down, there was an outpouring of residents highlighting poor coverage in their areas.

“Many rural areas, particularly in South Down, continue to be disadvantaged due to a lack of basic broadband coverage.

“But more public information is needed. Residents can check the speed and availability of coverage they can access using online tools, or directly contacting their provider.

“Sinn Féin will also be working closely with Newry, Mourne and Down District Council to pass on the locations of postcodes with poor coverage to inform their broadband consultation.”
