Sheehan to meet Health Trust over Royal report
Sinn Féin MLA Pat Sheehan is seeking urgent meetings with health officials after the health regulator identified concerning problems at Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.
The party’s health spokesperson was commenting after a report from the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA).
He said: "The recent report on an unannounced RQIA inspection of the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children identified problems with hospital management which are deeply concerning.
"Shortages of doctor and nursing staff is also very worrying.
"Sick children are the most vulnerable in our society and we must ensure they receive the best care possible.
"We also must ensure that Health and Social Care staff are supported to deliver a high standard of care.
"Despite the serious challenges raised in the report it also praised the work of staff in the hospital providing compassionate care to the children and their family.
"I have requested meetings with the heads of both the Belfast Trust and the RQIA to discuss the findings and to get assurances that these problems are addressed immediately."
