Sinn Féin meet RQIA over healthcare standards
Proper regulation is key to ensuring the best standards are upheld in the healthcare service, Sinn Féin Health spokesperson Pat Sheehan has said.
The West Belfast MLA was commenting after he and party colleague Colm Gildernew met with the healthcare regulator, the RQIA to discuss their role and work in quality improvement across the health and social care system.
Pat Sheehan said: "Today we had a very useful engagement with the RQIA who provided us with an update on their broad programme of work.
"It is of utmost importance that the HSC system is properly regulated to ensure that those using the service are provided with a safe and high standard of care when they need it.
"It is also important to identify where services need support in order to improve health outcomes for the community.
“Amongst the issues discussed were concerns RQIA raised in recent weeks in relation to nurse shortages in the system.
"This is a serious challenge that needs to be addressed by health trusts and the Department of Health.
"We will continue to engage with the RQIA on their work of ensuring standards of care are met."
