Sheehan MLA meets PHA on Flu response

11 January, 2018 - by Pat Sheehan

Sinn Féin Health spokesperson Pat Sheehan MLA has met with the Public Health Agency (PHA) to discuss the response to the flu outbreak.

Commenting after the meeting, the West Belfast MLA said: "Its concerning to see an increase in flu instances in the first week of 2018 compared with the previous week."

"I discussed with members of the PHA their plans for dealing with the challenges presented by this seasons flu.

"Clearly it’s important that preventative measures such as vaccination are taken to avoid increasing rates of flu.

"Prevention is important in protecting those most vulnerable to flu and consequently avoiding further pressures on the system faced by GP practices or emergency departments.

"There has been some increase in the uptake of the flu vaccine and I would encourage all those eligible for free vaccination to avail of it."
