‘Investment needed in cancer services’ - Gildernew

16 January, 2018 - by Colm Gildernew

Sinn Féin has called for investment in cancer services after meeting with Cancer Research to discuss ongoing pressures on the system here.

The party’s spokesperson for Carers Colm Gildernew MLA commented: “It was very informative to hear about the wide range of work that Cancer Research carries out across the North.

“Research and clinical trials are obviously important but we also discussed the need for a cancer strategy and some of its possible components.

“This discussion follows a meeting Pat Sheehan MLA had with Department of Health officials last week on the work currently being done to develop cancer services and a possible strategy.

“It was heartening to hear the wide range of services and advances in detection rates but there is a need to invest in transformation of cancer services. Sinn Féin have been clear from the outset that transformation requires proper investment to be successful. Ongoing tory austerity remains a serious obstacle to this.”
