Varadkar in no position to cast judgment on Sinn Féin - Gerry Adams TD
Responding to comments made by the Taoiseach regarding the leadership transition within SInn Féin, Gerry Adams TD said that "Leo Varadkar is in no position to cast judgement on Sinn Féin".
The Sinn Féin President continued:
"Teachta Varadkar leads a government which is presiding over unprecedented crises in housing and health.
"Record numbers of citizens experiencing homelessness. Record numbers of patients lying on hospital trolleys and on waiting lists.
"Ordinary families are struggling to make ends meet every week as the cost of living crisis rages on.
"An entire generation has been robbed of the prospect of owning their own home while young people are forced to pay extortionate rents.
"Instead of properly funding and resourcing essential public services, the Taoiseach has introduced tax cuts which disproportionately benefit the better off.
"This is the reality of the Taoiseach's so-called 'republic of opportunity'. The performance of Fine Gael in government since 2011 has only compounded what was already a deeply unequal society."
Responding to the Taoiseach's remarks regarding the political situation in the North, Mr Adams added:
"The Taoiseach has said that nationalists in the North 'will never again be left behind by an Irish government'. He now needs to go beyond this rhetoric.
"He needs to make it clear which rights, available every where else on these islands, he wants citizens to give up.”
