Sinn Féin welcomes investment in former Foyle College site

30 January, 2018 - by Karen Mullan

Sinn Féin Education Spokesperson Karen Mullan has welcomed confirmation by the Department of Education that they intend to build a new school and college on the former Foyle College site.

Foyle College recently moved to a new state of the art building in the Waterside area of the city.

Karen Mullan said:

“I welcome confirmation today from the Department of Education that they intend to build a new school and college on the former Foyle College site on the Northland Road.

“It’s my understanding that the proposed site will be built for Ardnashee School & College which currently supports over 250 children with special educational needs.

“Sinn Féin have consistently made the case to both the Department and the Education Authority for extra resources and provision for special educational needs.

“I have requested a meeting with the Board of Governors at Foyle College to discuss proposals for the entire site previously occupied by Foyle College.

“Ulster University must also step up and exercise its option on the parcels of land at the Foyle College site which have been earmarked to progress the much-needed expansion of Magee.”
