O'Brien raises topical issue on Cork hospital nursing shortages

31 January, 2018 - by Jonathan O'Brien TD

Sinn Féin TD for Cork North Central, Johnathan O’Brien TD, has given notice to the Ceann Comhairle to raise the issue of Nursing staff shortages in the Dáil tomorrow.

This comes after a nurse at St. Finbarr’s Hospital in the Ballinlough area of Cork contacted Teachta O’Brien highlighting the severity of the situation, after the HSE proposed a loss of 16 Nursing positions and 5 Health Caring Assistants positions.

Teachta O’Brien said:

“I have raised a topical issue with the Ceann Comhairle in the hope to debate the issue of nursing staff shortages in the Dáil tomorrow with the Minister for Health, Simon Harris.

“The situation in St Finbarr’s Hospital is a major concern and the loss of any number of staff will only have a negative impact on the already sizeable health crisis.

“Government needs to take the necessary steps to make sure our health workers have the support they need to carry out their roles efficiently.”
