Dáil vote on National Planning Framework essential - Eoin Ó Broin TD
Sinn Féin Housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin TD has called on the government to ensure that a Dáil vote is held on the final draft of the National Planning Framework (NPF).
Deputy Ó Broin said:
“As this document will be placed on a statutory footing, it is imperative that the Dáil gets a vote on the content of the final document.
“Sinn Féin has engaged with the NPF consultation process from the start and made two detailed submissions articulating our concerns about the draft plan.
“There were huge gaps in the last document. Namely on the North West of the country and there is a lot of vagueness on the North-South dimension of the plan. There must be much stronger all-Ireland focus especially in the context of the impact of Brexit.
“There is no emphasis on socio-economic disadvantage within the document. The drafters must be mindful of the impact of planning decisions and the potential socio-economic impacts.
“Sinn Féin is on the record stating that unless there is a significant change to the plan we will not be in a position to support it.
“It is also unclear as to what the procedure is for putting the NPF on a statutory footing. This has not been done before.
“We must have Dáil debate and vote on this important document before it is given a legislative footing.”
