To replace fossil fuels and to improve our environment this State needs to create a wide portfolio of diverse renewable energy sources.

To replace fossil fuels and to improve our environment this State needs to create a wide portfolio of diverse renewable energy sources.

Sinn Féin see biogas as forming an important part of this portfolio and we want to see an industry created.

Biogas, which is almost completely undeveloped in this State, can be produced from material such as from farm and catering waste and is common in other European States.

This is a sustainable renewable energy source that can complement intermittent energy such as wind and solar and help to ensure constant supply.

It will also create jobs in rural Ireland and provide an extra source of income for farmers.
