Sinn Féin ag seoladh sraith cáipéisí polasaí ar an nGaeloideachas – Peadar Tóibín TD

8 February, 2018 - by Peadar Tóibín TD

Sheol urlabhraí Gaeilge Shinn Féin, an Teachta Peadar Tóibín, and chéad cheann de shraith cáipéisí Shinn Féin a dhéanann cur síos ar stad an Ghaeloideachais agus conas í a chur chun cinn.

Dúirt an Teachta Tóibín:

“Is tábhachtach agus is luachmhar le muintir na hÉireann an Ghaeilge toisc gur cuid bhunúsach dínn í.  D’ainneoin go bhfuil buntáistí le huileláithreacht an Bhéarla maidir le cumarsáid idirnáisiúnta a éascú, níl aon amhras ann go bhfuilimid ag cailleadh mar náisiún, naisc lenár bhféiniúlacht agus lenár n-oidhreacht shaibhir chultúrtha féin.

“Tá an t-oideachas go fóill ar na gnéithe is tábhachtaí de thodhchaí na Gaeilge. Má bhíonn cúrsaí oideachais i gceart, beidh an chumhacht againn scéal agus cinniúint na Gaeilge a mhúnlú.

“Ar an drochuair is iomaí bac atá ann maidir leis an Ghaeilge sa chóras oideachais. Tá idir ghanntanas naíonraí sa Ghaeltacht, ghanntanas Gaelscoileanna le h-éileamh a shásamh, ghanntanas múinteoirí cáilithe agus oilte i nGaelcholáistí agus chaighdeán measctha ag dul i méid in institiúidí tríú leibhéal ann.

“Agus an Roinn Oideachais ag diúltú plean a dhréachtú don Ghaeloideachas, beimid ag léiriú ár bhfíse faoin mbealach is fearr Gaelscolaíocht d’ardchaighdeán a sholáthar ar fud na tíre. Creidimid gur chóir go mbeadh an rogha ag gach tuismitheoir a pháiste a chur ar Ghaelscoil más mian leo.

“Tá Sinn Féin tiomanta do mhargadh nua a fhorbairt don Ghaeilge. Creidimid gur ceart é Gaeloideachas ó naíonra go hiarchéim agus gur chóir dó a bheith ar fáil do cibé duine a roghnaíonn é thuaidh agus theas.”

Sinn Féin launching series of documents on Irish language education – Peadar Tóibín TD

Sinn Féin spokesperson on the Irish language, Peadar Tóibín TD, today first launched the first of a series of documents by Sinn Féin which outlines Irish language education as it stands and examining ways to improve its provision.

Deputy Tóibín said:

“The Irish language is of invaluable importance to Irish people as it is an intrinsic part of who we are. While the ubiquity of English has conferred advantages in terms of international ease of communication there is doubt that we are losing as a nation a connection to who we are as a people and to our rich cultural heritage.

“Education is fundamental to the future of the Irish language. If we get this right, we will have the power to change the Irish language narrative.

“Unfortunately many obstacles exist concerning Irish language in the educational system. This ranges from shortage of naíonraí in Gaeltacht areas, to a lack of Gaelscoileanna to meet demand, to shortages of experienced, qualified teachers in Irish-medium secondary schools, to increasingly mixed standards in third level institutions.

“With the Department of Education refusing to compose a plan for the provision of Irish-medium education, we will be outlining our vision in a series of policy documents as to how to maximise the provision of quality Irish language education across the island. We believe that every parent should be able to send their child to a Gaelscoil if they so wish.

“Sinn Féin is committed to the development of a new Irish language deal. We believe that quality Irish medium education from pre-school to postgraduate is a right and should be available to whoever wishes to choose it both North and South.”
