Love is a human right for all citizens – Fearon

14 February, 2018 - by Megan Fearon

Homophobic discrimination against LGBTQ citizens and denial of a basic right to marry who you love must end, Megan Fearon MLA has said.

The Sinn Féin Equality spokesperson was speaking following the submission of a petition at Stormont by Love Equality activists demanding the right to equal marriage, currently being denied by the DUP.

Megan Fearon MLA said:

“The discrimination and rights denial inflicted on the LBGTQ community is a blight on our society and must come to an end.

“Today’s action is a reminder that the DUP are actively denying gay and lesbian couples the basic human right to marry who they love, a right enjoyed by citizens everywhere else across these islands.

“On a day when many of us will be thinking about our loved ones, we must also remember the love of LGBTQ couples is attacked every day they are denied the right to marry.

“The DUP must end this blatant discrimination. Marriage equality must be extended to the north of Ireland immediately.”
