“Third level institutions in the south should also recognise PE A-Level” - Ó Donnghaile
Sinn Féin Senator Niall Ó Donnghaile has welcomed official recognition for Physical Education as a leaving cert subject and has reiterated his call that third level institutions in the south also move to recognise PE A-Level as a Central Applications Office (CAO) subject when applying for university places in the South.
Seanadóir Ó Donnghaile said:
“I welcome yesterday’s announcement from Education Minister Richard Burton that PE will now be recognised as a leaving cert subject.
"I again encourage all higher level institutions across the twenty six counties to recognise A-Level Physical Education studied in schools north of the border as an eligible subject for CAO application to all universities in the south. It is vitally important that this is hastened to allow for the current application round for 2018/19.
"It is welcome that steps towards entrance alignment to third level education on this island is happening but it must urgently be hastened in light of Brexit. In the interest of all-Ireland harmonisation and educational development institutions should move to full alignment in terms of academic recognition in order to ensure no barriers to educational attainment are erected.”
