DUP need to end Irish Language fake news agenda - Ó Muilleoir
Sinn Féin MLA Máirtín Ó Muilleoir has asked DUP MP Jeffrey Donaldson to withdraw his fake news claim that Irish medium schools cost five times more than other schools.
“This time of outrageous claim serves only to whip up hostility to Irish speaking children and will be music to the ears of sectarian opponents of equal rights for Irish speakers.
“If Jeffrey Donaldson really believed in respecting Irish speakers, he would withdraw this piece of fake news and commit to visiting an Irish medium school to educate himself on the facts," he said.
Máirtín Ó Muilleoir continued:
“This type of scaremongering only underlines the need for an Acht Gaeilge which would embrace Irish as a key component of our shared future. Jeffrey’s false comments belong in our divided past.
“Rights enjoyed by citizens everywhere on these islands, be they language rights, marriage equality or the right to coroner's inquests, must be extended to citizens in the North.
“The Good Friday Agreement provides for the British Irish Intergovernmental Conference and this must be convened to ensure the full implementation of agreements and to protect and promote the rights of all citizens.”
