Current drivers cannot escape the Public Services Card debacle – John Brady TD

Sinn Féin spokesperson for Employment Affairs & Social Protection John Brady TD has said that those intending to add a category to their driving licence by sitting a Theory Test are prohibited from doing so unless they hold a Public Services Card.

Speaking this afternoon Teachta Brady said:

“The rules around requiring a Public Services Card have gone beyond all reason when it comes to making minor changes to an already held full driving licence.

“Anyone attempting to add a category to their driving licence cannot apply to sit the necessary Theory Test without first holding a Public Services Card.

“The rules around the need for a Public Services Card for new driving licence applicants let alone those who already hold a full driving licence has spiralled out of control.

“In some cases, people are left waiting up to 4 weeks just to get an appointment in order to apply for a Public Services Card therefore, forcing them to delay their Theory Test by weeks. This is a major inconvenience.

“The fact that a full driving licence is not acceptable to the RSA as a form of identification in order to add a category to a driving licence beggars belief. The Government need to call a halt to this crazy situation.”
