Strategic Communications Unit ‘a Public Accounts Committee issue’ – Cullinane

8 March, 2018 - by David Cullinane TD

Sinn Féin TD and member of the Public Accounts Committee David Cullinane has today welcomed the decision to invite the Department of the Taoiseach and the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform to appear before the Committee to ask questions on the Strategic Communications Unit.

The Waterford TD said:

“I am glad that the Public Accounts Committee has agreed with my proposal to discuss the issues that have arisen as a result of the Strategic Communications Unit.

“Questions need to be asked as to the cost and ultimate function of the Unit

“We need to see whether taxpayers’ money has been utilised in an appropriate way and the relevant people to answer those questions are brought before the Committee.

“This should include the relevant accounting officers, as well as the Taoiseach as the Unit is very much his project.

“The business case for the Unit must be made available to the Committee.

“All other documentation must also be made available to the Committee.

“This is a value for money issue, one that impinges on systems, practices and procedures.”
