Louise O’Reilly TD welcomes move to publish 8th Amendment Referendum Bill
Sinn Féin health spokesperson Deputy Louise O’Reilly has welcomed confirmation that the 8th Amendment Referendum Bill will be published tomorrow morning.
Teachta O’Reilly said:
“I welcome the confirmation by the Minister for Health that the 8th Amendment Referendum Bill will be published first thing tomorrow. The Minister has confirmed the wording during his press briefing today which will be put to the people in the upcoming referendum and we welcome its simplicity and concise nature.
“We welcome the decision that the wording of the referendum will be to remove Article 40.3.3 from the Irish constitution and replace it with: “Provision may be made by law for the regulation of termination of pregnancies.”
“While the campaign to Repeal the 8th Amendment has been well underway for some time, this should be a rallying call for all Repealers to join their local campaign groups and get out into the community to campaign to remove this draconian amendment.
“We welcome the work of all involved on the legislation, in particular the work of the Attorney General.
“Sinn Féin will work to ensure that this legislation passes through the Oireachtas without delay so as the Referendum can go ahead in May.
“Winning this referendum will take hard work and leadership, and it is imperative that progressive politicians play their part in campaigning and working for Repeal.
“It’s time to trust women; it’s time to Repeal the 8th Amendment.
