Roundabouts and curb stones should not be used to mark territory - Archibald

31 March, 2018 - by Caoimhe Archibald

Sinn Féin MLA Caoimhe Archibald has condemned the painting of a roundabout at the Seacoast Road, Limavady.

The East Derry MLA said:

"The painting of this roundabout red, white and blue is disgraceful vandalism and an attempt at sectarian intimidation, it must be condemned by all.

"Roundabouts and curb stones should not be used to mark territory or to antagonise anyone.

“Those carrying out such actions are interested only in exacerbating difference and fomenting discord, they need to desist.

“I have been contacted by members of the community who are upset and angry that this has happened again.

"As an elected representative I support efforts to support good relations and encourage others to do the same.

Sinn Féin Councillor Brenda Chivers said:

“This has been reported to the PSNI and roads service to try and get a resolution.

“Last year a similar incident took several months to correct, we would like to see action taken immediately to have this repainted and to prevent repeat incidents."
