Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD lodges complaint over potentially ‘racist’ online poll

6 April, 2018 - by Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD

Sinn Féin TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh has forwarded a complaint about an online poll which is advertising on the website of a national paper. The complaint is that the poll’s questions are, in Teachta Ó Snodaigh’s view, “racist and leading”.

The Dublin South-Central TD said:

“An online poll has come to my attention after circulating on the internet in recent days, specifically when it was a placed advertisement on Independent.ie.

“Having read the poll, I find the questions both racist and leading in nature. As such, I have forwarded a complaint to Advertising Standards Authority for Ireland.

“Questions such as whether Muslim immigrants should be banned and whether women should be allowed to wear religious head coverings are targeting one sector of society and are frankly offensive.

“Apart from that, I would call on Independent.ie and any other website which is hosting advertisements for this poll to remove them and to be more careful in future when it comes to what is displayed on their sites.”
