Sinn Féin dedicated to the realisation of LGBT+ equality – McDonald

12 April, 2018 - by Mary Lou McDonald TD

Sinn Féin Leader Mary Lou McDonald TD has stated the party is “dedicated to the realisation of LGBT+ Equality”.

The Dublin Central TD, who was speaking during the launch of Sinn Féin’s LGBT+ policy at the Outhouse on Capel Street last night, said, “Sinn Féin wants to create a society that rights the wrongs and discriminations of the past”.

Teachta McDonald continued;

“Ireland is now a rainbow of diversity. I want to see an Ireland that enjoys every aspect of that diversity.

“Championing LGBT+ rights is about ensuring equality for all citizens. It is about inclusion, respect and dignity.

“The issues of LGBT+ rights must be advanced with the same momentum which drove the Marriage Equality Referendum campaign.

“Our new Ireland is an Ireland where diversity is embraced and where equality is not cherry picked.

“We have a lot of work to do to achieve full equality for the LGBT+ community in Ireland. Sinn Féin is fully dedicated to the realisation of that objective.

“Our LGBT+ citizens cannot be left sitting at the back of the bus waiting for their rights.”
