Serious issues surrounding HSE failure to deliver incontinence pads to vulnerable adults and children – O’Reilly
Speaking this afternoon, Sinn Féin Health spokesperson Louise O’Reilly TD has described as “shocking” the failure of the HSE to ensure the delivery of incontinence pads to vulnerable adults and children across the state.
Teachta O’Reilly said:
“There is currently a shocking situation regarding the failure of the HSE to ensure the delivery of essential incontinence pads to vulnerable adults and children across the state.
“No parent or guardian should find themselves in a situation where their child or loved one has been left chronically short of incontinence pads and the difficulties this creates.
“Parents have called my offices angry and upset at the problems with deliveries of these essential incontinence pads. Some parents and carers have no pads left and haven’t had a delivery of pads in weeks.
“One parent explained to me how her whole respite weekend was almost ruined over the failure of the courier service hired by the HSE to deliver the pads. She has had to fight to try and get some incontinence pads in order to be able to care for her child who has multiple disabilities.
“It is a disgrace; they have been failed by the HSE whose responsibility it is to ensure the delivery.
“My colleague Senator Pádraig Mac Lochlainn raised this issue in the Seanad earlier today and I echo his words when I say that it is extremely unfortunate that this issue has to be raised as no one should be left in the position these families and carers find themselves in.
“I have raised this issue with Minister Simon Harris and Junior Minister Finian McGrath and it is now up to both of them and the HSE to ensure that a solution is found immediately. Parents and carers cannot wait any longer.”
