Department must stop dragging their heels on Bunscoil - Lynch

4 July, 2018 - by Seán Lynch

Sinn Féin MLA Seán Lynch has called on the Department of Education to stop ‘dragging their heels’ and relocate Bunscoil An Traonaigh to its new premises at the Lisnaskea High School site as approved by the Minister in 2015.

The Fermanagh & South Tyrone MLA said:

“In December 2015, former Education Minister John O’Dowd approved plans to relocate Bunscoil An Traonaigh to a new premises at the former site of Lisnaskea High School.

“This decision was made as the current site of Bunscoil An Traonaigh is not fit for purpose and the inadequate conditions are holding the school back from developing and attracting new pupils.

“It’s ridiculous that two-and-a-half-years on, the school has not yet been relocated to the new site.

“The Department have now voiced ‘funding concerns’ as the reason for delay, but in reality the move could have long been completed without an intervention by the former DUP Education Minister.

“The Department of Education must stop dragging their heels and ensure that the children at Bunscoil An Traonaigh can access the quality of education and premises that they are entitled to.”
