Archibald welcomes halt of use of surgical mesh

10 July, 2018 - by Caoimhe Archibald

Sinn Féin MLA Caoimhe Archibald has welcomed confirmation that the chief medical officer is to call on health trusts to halt the use of surgical mesh treatments for urinary incontinence in the north.

The East Derry MLA said:“Sinn Féin has been calling for a moratorium on the use of mesh for quite some time and we welcome the news that the chief medical officer is advising that a pause in mesh surgery be introduced.“Myself and party colleagues have been working to support mesh campaigners highlighting the life-changing injury that can result from the use of mesh implants.

“Too many women have endured extreme pain and misery as a result of mesh treatments and we will continue to work with the campaigners to ensure that those injured mesh have access to appropriate treatment.”
