Welcome for £6m social housing project but more needs to be done – Ní Chuilín

28 August, 2018 - by Carál Ní Chuilín

Sinn Féin MLA Carál Ní Chuilín has welcomed the announcement that a £6m social housing project will see factory made homes being used to help tackle the North’s housing shortage.

The North Belfast MLA commented,

“Given the serious shortage of social and affordable housing, it is to be welcomed that Clanmil Housing Group have announced that they plan to build 40 houses in factories to help tackle this shortage.

“This means the time frame for assembling a house is shortened by 56 weeks.

“I welcome the fact that new homes are being built this way but much more needs to be done if we are to tackle the housing crisis in the north, particularly in areas of greatest need.

“There are currently 24,000 people in housing stress in the North, over 11,000 of these people are in Belfast and we need to see plans to address the housing issues where demand is greatest.”
