Brady celebrates community’s efforts to cure blood cancer
Sinn Féin MP Mickey Brady has commended the people of Newry and Armagh after collecting a certificate in Westminster celebrating the high number of people on the stem cell donor register from the constituency.
Following the presentation, Mickey Brady said:
"Newry and Armagh has been recognised by blood cancer charity Anthony Nolan for the number of people in the constituency registered as stem cell donors. We have the second highest number of people on the stem cell register among the constituencies in the North.
“I was absolutely delighted to attend this event and receive this recognition on behalf of the doners in the constituency. The importance of life saving stem cell transplant should not and cannot be underestimated.
“I am very proud that we have such a high number of people who have volunteered to give someone a second chance at life. Donating stem cells is straightforward but it could make an enormous difference to someone with no other chance of a cure.
“I would now encourage even more people to sign up as donors.”
