‘Another deafening DUP silence over offensive Paisley post’ - McGuigan

17 October, 2018 - by Philip McGuigan

North Antrim Sinn Féin MLA Philip McGuigan has criticised the ‘deafening silence’ of the DUP leadership over an offensive tweet by controversial MP Ian Paisley.

The DUP MP provoked an angry reaction when he retweeted a post which linked notorious paedophile Jimmy Saville to the EU Remain campaign. He has since deactivated his twitter account but there has been no statement of apology from either him or the DUP leadership.

“This was a grossly insensitive and offensive attack from Ian Paisley but it doesn’t surprise me that there has been another deafening silence from his party leadership on the matter,” Philip McGuigan commented.

“We saw a similar approach from the DUP hierarchy over the various scandals Ian Paisley has been involved in and we can only imagine what it’s going to take before his party takes definitive action against an MP who is a constant embarrassment and an occasional disgrace.”
