Revised plan needed for College Green Plaza - Imelda Munster TD

17 October, 2018 - by Imelda Munster TD

Sinn Féin’s Spokesperson for Transport, Imelda Munster TD has said that An Bord Pleanála made the correct and prudent decision in rejecting plans for a pedestrianised plaza in College Green, as studies on the impact of the plaza on traffic were insufficient.

Deputy Munster said:

“We are in favour of any proposal that will create public pedestrianised areas in our cities, however we have to plan such measures carefully, and in this instance that did not happen.

“There are serious problems in Dublin with congestion, and we have to ensure that traffic is managed. This means prioritising public transport and ensuring that we don’t create bottlenecks.

“College Green has been subject to ongoing disruption since the Luas Cross-City began operations at the end of last year.

“Any further plans to reroute traffic must be subject to rigorous planning to ensure that we don’t make matters worse in other parts of the city.

“We look forward to revised plans for the proposed plaza down the line.”
