Ennis welcomes BBC's small step on GAA coverage

22 October, 2018 - by Sinéad Ennis

Sinn Féin MLA Sinéad Ennis has welcomed the 'small step' by the BBC after the corporation broadcast online highlights of recent Club Championship games.

The party’s Culture Arts and Sports spokesperson said:

“The small snippet of online coverage of Club Championships by the BBC is welcome but is only the beginning of what needs to be done to enhance their Gaelic games coverage.

“GAA fans and licence payers want parity of esteem in terms of televised coverage of the largest spectator and participatory sport on the island of Ireland.

“There is a massive energy and enthusiasm surrounding GAA club championship games with large crowds turning out to watch the fixtures.

“I launched an online petition last week calling on the  BBC to increase coverage and I would urge all GAA fans to get behind it by signing the petition.”
