Gildernew meets HSCB on Dungannon GP concerns

23 October, 2018 - by Colm Gildernew

Sinn Féin MLA Colm Gildernew has met with the Health and Social Care Board to express his concern for GP services in the Dungannon area.

The Fermanagh South-Tyrone said:

"GP services in the Dungannon area are under increasing pressure with the recent announcement of the retirement of practice partners in the Northland GP practice.

"Although these retirements will not come into affect until the end of March 2019 it is important that the HSCB acts with urgency to meet the needs of patients in Northland practice.

"While the HSCB has informed me that they are working to fill the vacancies, they need to consider all options to protect the services.

"While the immediate concern is for the Northland practice this can have wider impacts for GP services across the Dungannon area particularly with a growing number of registered patients and aging population.

"The board needs to consider other primary care supports for vulnerable GP practices to ensure their sustainability moving forward.

"I will continue to engage with all concerned to protect GP services for the community."
