Sinn Féin welcome Citizens Assembly on social care

21 November, 2018 - by Colm Gildernew

Sinn Féin MLA Colm Gildernew has praised the Citizens Assembly on Social Care.

The party’s Carers spokesperson said:

“Social care is a vital part of the health service and it is under immense strain so I am delighted the first Citizen Assembly in the north focussed on this service.

“I observed the Citizens Assembly at first hand and was impressed by discussions on carers' rights and better support for carers, both paid and unpaid.

“I welcome the recommendation for more dialogue on how we fund social care. Sinn Féin are calling on the Department of Health to publish a ‘True Cost of Care’, which will clearly state what it costs to provide a minimum standard of care.

“By publishing the ‘True Cost of Care’ we can have an informed discussion around the level of funding required to provide older people with the quality care they need and deserve.”
