Governments should lobby for EU funding to support Bombardier workers - Anderson
Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has called for the British and Irish governments to lobby for EU funding to support workers facing job losses at Bombardier in Belfast.
Martina Anderson said:
"The loss of almost 500 jobs at Bombardier in Belfast is a devastating blow to the workers, their families and the local economy.
"The impact of these job losses will be felt beyond the Bombardier workforce.
"In order to support those workers, both the British and Irish governments should lobby the EU to use the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund to support the workers involved.
"While this will not save or replace the jobs lost or lessen the terrible impact this jobs blow will have on families and communities, it would provide support for training programmes to allow the workers to fund employment elsewhere.
"This EU fund is available for such circumstances and it is up to the British government to request it.
"I will be engaging with trade union representatives to lobby for the activation of this fund in order to support these workers."
