Funding package will not end crisis in community pharmacies - Gildernew

21 November, 2018 - by Colm Gildernew

Sinn Féin MLA Colm Gildernew has criticised the Department of Health's funding package for community pharmacies.

The Fermanagh & South Tyrone MLA said:

"The funding package announced by the Department of Health this week simply does not address fully the pressures faced by community pharmacy.

"Community pharmacies are a vital part of frontline health services but they are left struggling to continue providing communities with important services.

"Many pharmacies will face dispensing medicine at a loss under this package.

"An Independent Cost of Services Investigation (COSI) into Community Pharmacy has already identified significant underfunding in the community pharmacy contract.

"The Department of Health needs to engage meaningfully with CPNI representatives to find agreement on a Community Pharmacy contract that addresses underfunding, in the context of the COSI report.”
