People deserve a home for Christmas, not a hostel - Mary Lou McDonald TD

1 December, 2018 - by Mary Lou McDonald TD

Sinn Féin Leader Mary Lou McDonald TD has said that in the run up to Christmas, people in emergency accommodation & people facing homelessness deserve homes, not hostels.

The Dublin Central TD made the comments after attending the ‘Homes For All’ march in Dublin City Centre this afternoon.

Teachta McDonald said;

“There was a huge crowd protesting in the middle of Dublin today against the Government’s failed housing and homeless policies.

“We’re moving into Christmas very soon and again, children are going to spend Christmas in hotel rooms, B&B’s, family hubs.

“Families right across the country are worried whether or not they will have a roof above their head in January.

“This is the Government’s greatest failure. On Taoiseach Varadkar’s watch, over 1,000 children have become homeless.

“This is unacceptable, and change is needed. The campaign for homes will grow and intensify in the new year."
