There can be no renegotiation of the Withdrawal Agreement – Mary Lou McDonald TD

7 December, 2018 - by Mary Lou McDonald TD

Sinn Féin Leader Mary Lou McDonald TD has said that Irish interested must be defended in terms of Brexit, and that in the event of a “no deal” scenario, the question of Irish Unity must be put to the people.

Teachta McDonald was speaking after holding a briefing with the EU Embassies in Ireland diplomatic core this morning.

The Dublin Central TD said:

“At our meeting with EU diplomats this morning, it is not surprising that Brexit was the main issue that arose. Obviously people are looking to Westminster with some trepidation as to what might happen

“There’s no good Brexit for Ireland. We have reaffirmed the fact that the withdrawal agreement is the least worst option.  There are those in the British system that might believe they can negotiate back or negotiate down from this agreement. They are wrong and that protections for Ireland must and will be defended at every turn.

“I think there is now a strong and shared analysis right across Europe’s various governments that this is the deal."
