Archibald welcomes submission of planning application for replacement of Glenrandel Bridge

10 January, 2019 - by Caoimhe Archibald

Sinn Féin MLA Caoimhe Archibald has welcomed the submission of the planning application for the replacement of Glenrandel Bridge to Derry and Strabane District Council.

The historic bridge was washed away in the floods of August 2017.

The East Derry MLA said:

"The collapse of the bridge and the resulting diversion has been a source of great inconvenience and frustration to residents in the Park/Craigbane area.

“Repair work has been delayed because this is a Listed Bridge within an Area of Special Scientific Interest/Special Area of Conservation.

"These lengthy delays have led to a sense of frustration in the local community as residents’ lives have been disrupted for more than a year now.

"The submission of the planning application for the bridge will hopefully see this process move forward and allow for work to begin on the replacement bridge as planned in the next couple of months.

“I will continue to monitor progress of the necessary planning applications and work to help ensure there are no further delays.”
