McDonald requests extension for Glasnevin BusConnects route proposals

6 March, 2019 - by Mary Lou McDonald TD

Sinn Féin President and Dublin Central TD Mary Lou McDonald has called for an extension to the BusConnects proposals affecting the Drumcondra and Glasnevin area until there is greater clarity on the MetroLink proposals.

Ms McDonald said,

“While I am supportive of efforts to enhance our transport infrastructure, there is understandably great anxiety in Drumcondra and Glasnevin about the potential impact of not just one, but two major infrastructure projects in the area.

Last year the MetroLink proposals were published which included plans to construct an underground station at the current site of Na Fianna CLG. Proposals for the €2billion BusConnects proposals have just been published which will also have an impact on this area.

“I have therefore written to the National Transport Authority requesting that the BusConnects consultation period for the Ballymun – City Centre route be extended until the revised proposals for MetroLink have been published. It’s important that citizens have the most up-to-date information at hand before they can make considered and informed submissions to public consultations."
