South Dublin remembers the Hunger Strikers
May 4, 2006
South Dublin Sinn Féin candidates for the general election Shaun Tracey and Sorcha Nic Chormaic will attend a black flag vigil at the Luas Bridge in Dundrum at 6pm tomorrow, 5th May 2006 to mark the 25th Anniversary of the death of Bobby Sands and to remember all the Hunger Strikers who gave their lives for Ireland.
Speaking in advance of the vigil Mr. Tracey said, "In 1981 Ireland came to a standstill as tens of thousands of people took to the streets to voice their outrage and to support the hunger strikers. This year, twenty-five years on, we remember with pride the sacrifice made by our fallen comrades.
"South Dublin republicans will hold a commemorative vigil in Dundrum tomorrow evening to mark the 25th Anniversary of the death of Bobby Sands and to remember all the Hunger Strikers who unselfishly gave their lives in defiance of Tatcher's policy of criminalising the Republican struggle." ENDS
