“Issues remain with House Sales Scheme” – Sinn Féin

6 January, 2009 - by Fra McCann

Fra McCann Sinn Fein MLA for West Belfast has called on the Housing Minister Margaret Ritchie, to fully explain her announcement today that change's were to be made to the House Sales Scheme.

Fra McCann said Sinn Fein have in the past fully supported the right to buy, and commented further,

"Today's announcement poses major difficulties for those interested in buying into this scheme, the minister however, has not advised on the pit falls within this scheme, including the fact that the 25% share bought carries a 100% liability for the purchaser.

"The minister needs to end the spin she puts on decisions like this without explaining the consequences of how it will roll out to those who buy these houses. It was interesting to hear a housing journalist commenting this evening that this needs to be treated with caution.

"That remains Sinn Féin's position until such time as the adequate support in terms of liability is afforded to those people who decide to partake in the scheme." CRÍOCH
