Pádraig Mac Lochlainn - EU candidate North West
35 year old, Donegal County Councillor, Pádraig Mac Lochlainn is
Sinn Féin's EU candidate for the Northwest Constituency. He was his
party's National Campaign Director during the Lisbon Treaty referendum.
Pádraig has been a passionate and effective advocate and champion all
his adult life at local, national, and European level.
He has an intimate knowledge of the issues facing communities
throughout the eleven counties within the Northwest constituency,
having assisted his party colleagues, Senator Pearse Doherty and Martin
Ferris, TD with their recent comprehensive Oireachtas reports on
developing the region.
Prior to commencing his current full time role as a public
representative, he served on the Irish National Organisation of the
Unemployed (INOU) National Executive from 1997 until 2000 as well as
representing the organisation on the National Rural Development Forum.
At local level, he was a community director on the Inishowen Partnership Board for 5 years from 1996 to 2001. Elected to represent the people of Inishowen on Donegal County Council in 2004, Pádraig went onto narrowly miss out on a Dáil seat in Donegal North East at the last general election.
He has served on the Sinn Féin Ard Comhairle (National Executive) and continues to represent the party at national and international level on a regular basis. He was appointed to the board of InterTradeIreland, the All Ireland Trade and Business Development Body in December 2007.
